If you've always thought, like most of us gamers, that games based on movie licenses are always bad, let me tell you a game that has just proved you, and all of us, wrong. Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64 is the best licensed game on a movie to ever see the light of the day, or that of your TV tube.

Visuals

Goldeneye has quite a bit of eye candy to offer. The best part of the game's look is that most stages are composed of completely different tile sets for walls, corridors, and other texture maps. Also, the variety of enemies, whose polygon weapons are a true representative of how they will shoot you back, is a very nice element of the game. Wait till you get to ride that huge Soviet tank down the streets of St. Petersburg!

Music and Sounds

This game has a full assortment of Bond's theme arrangements. Most of them are pretty nice and keep up with the feel of the game. The game's sounds are pretty standard for a typical first-person shooter, among them the furious and loud gun shots and reloading sounds which can get pretty scary, especially when you are deep inside a jungle maze and the enemies are wearing green uniforms.

Merits

This is more than your standard shoot-everything-that-moves game. There are mission objectives that need to be met in order to advance through the stages, ranging from recovering blueprints to rescuing and protecting Natalya the programmer-girl. The game really shines on its multiplayer capabilities, though. I mean, what do you prefer: shooting down a legion of dumb computer soldiers or beating the living crap out of your pals? A lot of people out there agree with me and you should try it out in an N64 near you. Just don't let 'em shoot you when you have no weapons...

Flaws

The elevator's music is, well, pretty bad. Fortunately, it's over as soon as you step out of the elevator. Preventing Natalya from being killed can be tough and frustrating sometimes. The 00 Agent difficulty level is very hard to beat!
